On Oct 3, a letter was posted referring to negative campaigning waged against Dave Reichert. Now, I do not know why such a free campaign ad would be included here, and I have no special affection for his opponent. Full disclosure?
This very month last year, Rep. Reichert voted with the majority to shut the government down for two weeks over an ideological quarrel about the debt ceiling. Our choice, does that outweigh any good derived from human trafficking? It’s a matter of perceived priorities.
As for negative campaigning? I have personally submitted to the Covington and Auburn city councils a resolution calling for the state Legislature to revisit an amendment related to Citizens United (passed by the state house HJM4001, in 2013). At least 14 other cities, including Seattle and Tacoma, and for that matter 11 other states, have already approved similar resolutions. Auburn and Covington have not only been inactive but absolutely silent.
We face some very real challenges. Ignoring them does not eviscerate responsibility.
