I live in the River Mobile home park. This past year we have spent much of our time talking about and preparing for the “Flood of 2010.” I have been told that some of the older residents have prepared so well that they do not have a picture on the wall and most of their stuff is either on the top shelf or has been moved to other family homes.

Our once waiting period to find a home has turned into many houses for sale.

We have put traps on our sewer lines, bought flood insurance and all have had sleepless nights wondering if that call will come in the middle of the night. Where will we go?

After telling my son of my woes and fears, he came back with a solution. He suggested pontoons. I then would have riverfront property.

So, here is my idea.

Offer to sell the River Mobile home park to a resort corporation. Auburn is a perfect spot for a resort. It’s close to the airport, water or snow skiing, fishing, Starbucks. The parks department could plan events to be offered at the resort.

The Green River offers many possibilities. For fishermen, there could be a salmon special complete with a float trip from Flaming Geyser State Park to the mouth of the river.

There could be a new bridge or a small boat traveling to the golf course. We might even attract big-name golfers and sponsors for a top tournament.

The area north could be turned into a park and hold big-name events, including the Auburn Symphony.

I also can see summer field trips to Carpinito Farms to gather your own vegetables. How many people these days pick fresh corn and carrots?

Auburn has a lot to offer.

Just think … floating down the Green River on a hot day, Mount Rainier in the background, cold beer and pretzels, part of the package. How can life get any better?

Auburn, a tourist attraction. Plus, I won’t have to put pontoons on my mobile home.
