Helicopter company brings noise, risk

n the April 22 edition of the Auburn Reporter, Mr. Richard Phillips expressed his concern about the increased noise pollution if and when the Classic Helicopter Corporation is given approval to lease space, build a hanger and conduct its business at the Auburn Municipal Airport by Mayor Nancy.

In the April 22 edition of the Auburn Reporter, Mr. Richard Phillips expressed his concern about the increased noise pollution if and when the Classic Helicopter Corporation is given approval to lease space, build a hanger and conduct its business at the Auburn Municipal Airport by Mayor Nancy.

The company’s business is conducting tours, providing charter flights and a helicopter flight school.

While I whole heartedly agree with the issue of increased noise pollution, I think the most important concern the elected officials should have is the obvious risk inherent in operations of a helicopter school over a densely populated area. The nature of helicopter operation leaves little margin of error, especially when compared to fixed wing aircraft and when flown by students.

It is not worth the increased tax revenue when it puts lives at risk and further reduces our quality of life.
