In response to Mr. W. Riedel’s letter about the risk the Classic Helicopter Corporation (April 29, Auburn Reporter), the company would bring more noise, yes, but the additional risk is negligible.
Flying a helicopter leaves little margin for error, but at a helicopter school, students will be flying with instructors.
According to the Air Safety Institute, “… flight training is safer than general aviation as a whole.”
Also, the majority of accidents occur over an airport, not over populated areas.
Second, the increased tax revenue is not the only benefit for our city. There will be more people coming to Auburn to take lessons who will likely buy some things in Auburn.
The buildings for the helicopter company will have to be built by someone. Just looking at the tax revenue is short-sighted in terms of looking at economic benefits.
