I read the questions and answers the (mayoral) candidates gave to the Auburn Reporter. I was astounded that Virginia Haugen said if elected, she would hire a city manager. Why should the citizens of Auburn pay her a salary and also a city manager? If she is not qualified to perform the duties of mayor, she should not be elected.
I have lived in Auburn for more than 50 years and have experienced the city’s growth and changes. In that time, we have had several mayors. It is true it was only a part-time job when the population was 7,000 people. But times have changed, and we are a sizable city now with many more issues with which to deal.
