Although I don’t have a soapbox, I still need to respond to Jeanne Herold’s letter to the editor in the Auburn Reporter on Sept. 17.

I see your point. It does take a “brave and honest woman who only wants the best for Auburn” to break a law and then lie about it. We just love to see that in our elected officials.

It does send a message to all of us citizens. If only more people would get involved in solving problems by breaking laws, we would see a much more vibrant Auburn.

It’s just inspiring to think that if you are a public servant you have special privileges and you are above the law. Being honest, having integrity and law abiding is so boring. What it says to the public is the only way to get things done is by taking matters into your own hands, and so what if you break the law — you know what needs to be done. Who needs rules and laws?

We elect individuals that should represent us by being honest, trustworthy and responsible. What do Virginia Haugen’s actions tell us?
