Make way for a one-band town

Several weeks ago a friend and I were talking about the days our children were in the Auburn High Marching Band, and how much fun we had. The band went all over the state, traveled to Oregon, British Columbia and marched in the ’89 Rose Parade in Pasadena.

We and the city were so proud when the band marched down Main Street for the Veterans Day Parade in Auburn. We could hear the band before we could see it because it was so big, almost 200 strong.

Now we have three high schools and yes, the kids sound great. But with three different schools marching by themselves, the sound is not the same.

We discussed how great it would be to have an “Auburn All City High School Marching Band.” Each school could wear its own uniforms but maybe wear the same hat, maybe a white one or one combining the colors of each school.

Each school could carry their own banner, with one saying, “Auburn All City High School Marching Band.”

This would bring the city together. It’s something that everyone could agree on, unlike what the city flower should be.
