In reference to your Sept. 21 editorial, “It’s time for mayor to resign,” please let me say that that it was a well-written, unbiased and informative story.

Your mention of Mayor Sun as an “extraordinary soldier who experienced and survived the horrors of the Korean war” and of his “record that speaks for itself” and his “body scarred with shrapnel,” is heartwarming to Mayor Sun’s supporters, especially for veterans like me.

He is an authentic and a brave American war hero.

This fact has never been mentioned before. All the disrespect and harsh words that were heaped on the mayor were uncalled for. He was even called a “gook” and a “freak.”

And from what I understand, on the very first day of his meeting with the City Council, council member Gary Hulsey harshly told him: “First thing in the morning, you come to my house and present your credentials and medals … and if you don’t do that, I’ll have the FBI arrest you.”

Can you imagine a newly-elected city mayor being talked down to in that way by a council member?

I went to see the mayor several weeks ago and we talked briefly. He said it was the well-known “corruption” in City Hall that pushed him to run for mayor. And perhaps it was for this reason that he wanted to “fire” all the people that he suspected were in this “corruption.”

He wanted to clean up City Hall.

And perhaps it was for this reason that he was dubbed as a “tyrant.” And “woes” after “woes” came upon him in return. All these “woes” were extensively reported by the Auburn Reporter. Some of these woes were the “fake arrest” for breaking the lock of a locked door inside “his own City Hall” and the “sexual allegations” that happened decades ago that were found to be untrue and dismissed. And, of his “incompetence,” etc.

From these “woes,” we, the readers, did not hear anything from Mayor Sun. Was he given the opportunity to to tell his side of the story? We, the readers, did not hear anything from the mayor.

Yes, indeed, “Pacific’s government is broken.” Mayor Sun and the City Council “can no longer co-exist.” Yes, “something’s got to give.” But whose fault was this in the first place? He promised the people when he ran for election that he would clean City Hall of corruption. What would happen if he resigns? Would corruption stay on, and business as usual?

Just asking.
