I live at Lakeland Hills, and down the hill is the City of Pacific, literally my next-door neighbor. I can’t help overhearing the screaming and cursing and the wailing of its residents. The unending woes of this neighbor of mine kind of affect me, too.

The City of Auburn has refused to let the Veterans For Peace organization march in the Auburn Veterans Day parade on Saturday.

We are pleased crashes have been reduced in Auburn since the installation of traffic safety cameras (“Red-light violations at photo-enforced spots in Auburn decline,” Auburn Reporter, Oct. 26).
I am voting to reject R-74. What the good citizens of Washington are about to do is equivalent to changing the course of the flow of the Columbia River.
A letter to the editor in the Auburn Reporter (March 27, 2009) stated: “I read years ago from a gay activist that if they could make their demands look like a civil rights issue, it will have support. This is not a civil rights issue at all. Sexual orientation is not the same as race or gender. It may be the result of a disastrous childhood or choice, but many have gladly left this ‘category.’ They already have rights. But they want special rights to orient children that this is normal and to persecute all those who will not support that ‘standard.’ “
R-74 does not “redefine marriage,” contrary to popular belief.
I’m excited this November to elect a smart, strong, and thoughtful woman to the House of Representatives in the 8th District.
Washington State needs to completely replace its current tax, fee and toll systems with a moderately progressive income tax. This idea is described in papers on a website, www.future4washington.webs.com. The website also has a paper, “Please vote No on I-1185,” and provides an explanation of why.
The Sept. 28 Auburn Reporter had a guest op (“Vote yes for schools by Nov. 6”) in which the author lamented over the condition of Auburn High.
OK, Auburn. We’ve seen the overwhelming data for replacing Auburn High School. Especially the economic reasons, taxes stay level.
The only corruption found in Pacific City Hall is the disruption of its functions.
Same-sex couples have the right to live as they choose, but they don’t have the right to redefine marriage for everyone. R-74 is not an issue of legal rights.
Not long ago the City was telling us it needed money to improve our streets. The City says intersections needed to be put in with concrete because of the added stress of traffic, most particularly from large trucks.
Auburn Youth Resources wishes to thank the many individuals, families, social clubs and businesses in the area that donated school supplies and backpacks, which allowed more than 125 youth to feel good about attending their first day of school prepared.
It’s too bad that the Jensons didn’t attend a recent community meeting at Auburn High, which explained why continuing to constantly repair the old building costs us more.
As an Auburn High School alum, educator and parent, I am supporting the Auburn High School Modernization and Reconstruction Bond vote on Nov. 6.
