I was glad to see the letter from the Sheriff’s office reminding people to wear life jackets (PFDs) while on or near the water. But I need to make one small correction.
As a criminal defense attorney who practices throughout King County with my office and residence in Auburn, I feel qualified to comment on the recent articles regarding Auburn Municipal Court.
So I am understanding that City officials want to eliminate, or gut an efficiently run, effective and necessary local court and its probation department to save (maybe) a million dollars.
I have been a judge and judge pro-tem in many courts in our area, including Auburn Municipal Court, for almost two decades. I am very familiar with the criminal population held by Auburn in jail.
Speaking of an “Auburn” city, I would surmise the taxpayers of Auburn Hills, Mich., home of the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, aren’t complaining about the income generated by its team with the nearby big-city name. It’s probably more likely Detroit residents aren’t happy the team isn’t located in their city.
I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you for the excellent recreational programs that Auburn offers to its residents with unique needs and abilities.
Somehow I would like to thank the Auburn Symphony Orchestra, the citizens of Auburn, and especially conductor Stewart Kershaw for a special treat on April 28.
When is water service like court services? When Auburn residents can’t complain to the City about them.
The Supermall project and its new name? It is the dumbest thing we have ever heard. It doesn’t even make sense, not even remotely.
Well, it appears as though the new owners have too much money. Spend a couple hundred-thousand of dollars for an uplift and name change that people are going to wonder where in tarnation is the “The Outlet Collection|Seattle?”
I am all for the “getting a new look,” but I do have to agree with Councilwoman Backus, this is Auburn.
Finally, the City of Pacific can move on from all the drama ex-Police Chief Calkins brought to this city.
I am appalled at the greedy decision of our neighborhood grocery stores to begin selling hard liquor.
We live in northeast Auburn, where we came into a neighborhood with a house that’s boarded up and with its grass that’s grown knee high.
Regarding Jeanne Herold’s letter (“Enough of these rising water bills,” Auburn Reporter, May 4): The rates on her bill go up so the City can buy computer upgrades, etc. and increase the employees’ salaries.
I have never been a fan of basketball, but the Port of Seattle’s claims that a new arena will cost our region family wage jobs fail to identify the real problem.
I am appalled by the proposal to eliminate City control and responsibility for our Auburn courts and locally elected judge.
Auburn first runs a hardware store out of business, then it takes six or seven more businesses out with at least 50 people losing their jobs.
A big thanks to our local fire department. My granddaughter was driving in the vicinity of Auburn Riverside High School on a Wednesday night about 9:30.
