Walter Backstrom’s Jan 30th column, “There’s enough cash – just not enough courage,” contradicts itself. It first says “There’s enough…
Once again, the city of Auburn was blanketed by Mother Nature. The West Hill received more than 14 inches of…
To the atheist who acknowledged his belief of the season with a sign:
Why are you so afraid of a nativity scene? Can it physically attack you? If not, why do you care? If, as you say, there are no spiritual powers, what’s the big deal?
I just read Walter Backstrom’s column. Congratulations on your courage and conviction. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
I take serious issue with the word hate that was used so many times in (Walter Backstrom’s) editorial.
I write this in regards to several subjects:
1. Homelessness in Auburn is out of control, ruining our neighborhoods and threatening our community.
2. Gangs are ruining our neighborhoods and threatening our community.
3. Our streets and sidewalks are falling apart, not to mention the filth and mess left behind by those mentioned in points 1 and 2.
4. Traffic: Auburn Way? Not to mention stupid circles of wasted money creating more dangerous intersections in our neighborhoods.
When I read Walter Backstrom’s editorial in the Auburn Reporter (“Would Martin Luther King hate George Bush?” Nov. 12), I was so moved.
I wish the City of Auburn would just drop the whole Virginia Haugen (court case). It’s embarrassing.
The 2008 presidential election is over. Finally! I am truly thankful. I cannot adequately express how thankful I am.
When we elect our City Council members to office, we expect them to perform their duties, be independent thinkers and work as a team for the betterment of our city.
They have a responsibility to the citizens of Auburn to perform those functions, as well as attend and participate in the City Council meetings.
The creativity presented by the Auburn police blotter is the only new art form to arise on the social media scene in, quite possibly, 20 years.
Who are we to deny, to repudiate, to revolt against this literature of sorts?
It’s refreshing and crisp, and, dare I say, revolutionary.
Kudos to Mystery Comic of the Police Blotter Play, and cheers to satire.

Today, on my way to lunch, I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read “Vote Obama, I need the money.” I laughed.
Regarding: “Griefworks helps soothe pain of others” – Reporter, Oct. 22). Robert Whale is a gem. I’m both impressed and touched by his sensitivity and ability to “capture the heart” of his subject.
I agree with Melissa Franzen (letter to the editor, Oct. 22) regarding the remarks in the police blotter column.
Is anyone besides me getting sick and tired of the “want to be a comic” who writes the police blotter?

In August 2007, residents from the Lea and West hills voted to become annexed into the City of Auburn. Prior to that action, the Auburn City Council said it would not consider annexing these PAAs (potential annexation areas) unless it could be done so as to prevent adverse financial impact to the city’s current residents.
Now the City Council is raising our rates for water and storm drainage almost 10 percent.
I believe that the contender who will win our upcoming governor’s election is the one who will honor the 1-percent cap on property taxes. Also one who will bring on NO new taxes.
