Jason Ritchie is the moderate Democratic candidate running in the 8th Congressional District.
Initially classified as an underdog, Jason has made huge strides in fundraising and voter outreach this year. He has done this by investing a significant amount of time in preparing his campaign and solidifying a grassroots effort.
Before this year, Dave Reichert had not worried about his bid for reelection as he has successfully defeated multiple big-money Democrats in the past. After Jason’s strong showing in voter outreach, he is starting to take notice and is vigorously attempting to mobilize his campaign. We have a race on our hands.
Since the creation of the 8th Congressional District, it has elected Republicans time and time again. It is now labeled as a purple district, meaning that it is pretty evenly split between Democrats and Republicans.
This year Ritchie has a good chance running a successful campaign against Reichert and his less-than-impressive congressional record/waning support among independents. This is an extremely winnable district for Democrats and with the growing urban areas, will yield a Democratic congressmen eventually.
I would like to see the Auburn Reporter become more involved in the local congressional politics going on in the area as it is important in the shaping in our city and nation.
