Thanks to the efforts of Sens. Fain, Hill and Litzow, the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) was not only funded in the 2011 capital budget, but its integrity also was maintained.
Despite a long and difficult session, the senators worked together and reached across party lines to do what is best for our state and best for future generations. Fifty years from now, our children and grandchildren will still be able to enjoy the quality of life that we enjoy today – thanks to this year’s budget.
The Middle Green River Coalition also would like to thank our House representatives for moving the process and supporting the ranking of the projects, which includes funding for Icy Creek, an incredible asset to our communities in South King County.
We look forward to seeking additional grant funding to match the WWRP money and bring recreational resources to our local and regional community. Projects such as Green River Gorge conservation are only possible through funding such as the WWRP.
The WWRP isn’t just about conserving our land. It is also about preserving our quality of life, which includes protecting our vibrant recreation economy that so many families and small businesses in our state depend on.
In these tough times, Sens. Fain, Hill and Litzow should be commended for having the foresight to look beyond this year and make decisions that will serve our state for generations to come.
