Signs of dying, dire downtown

I just had to comment on the downtown Auburn sidewalk sales. Really, what businesses are left downtown? I have lived in Auburn for 49 years, and I am just shocked to my core at what a ghost town we have become.

Last year I invited family from out of town to our Good Ol’ Days, and again every year it gets worse. I was really ashamed of the whole thing. My family was not impressed with Auburn at all. They came from a smaller town by far. I have attended outings in their towns, and it is a real hometown feeling, whereas Auburn has lost that feeling.

The comments from people on the streets have the same disgust that my husband and I feel. I feel sorry for our small businesses in town. I don’t see them being able to thrive here, as much as I would like to see them and even more small businesses in Auburn make it.

I love this town, but not what it has become. I ask the people who run this town: What’s next?
