Capital gains
While I am not subject to the State of Washington capital gains tax, guest columnist Rich Elfers misses the mark on numerous points.
1. It is just a matter of time before state government lowers the $250,000 threshold to envelope more citizens in this state. Give state government an inch and they will take a mile.
2. Total state revenue growth is on par with annual percentage increases in medical insurance. Does anyone recognize that we have a spending problem? Anybody? Anybody out there?
3. An income tax is unconstitutional in the State of Washington. The state Supreme Court can call it an excise tax or whatever else it wants to escape the state constitution, but it is simply an income tax. State government will continue to become more emboldened and expand this concept to other areas to extort more hard earned money from its citizenry to support an already bloated state government.
Thomas Jefferson stated that “If your government is big enough to give you everything you want, it is big enough to take away everything you have.” This applies to all government, federal or state, etc.
Just remember, you heard it here first.
