As a district court Judge for nearly 14 years, I am joining judges from King and Pierce County who support Matt Williams. As it happens, I’m acquainted with both candidates.
Matt is by far the most qualified candidate. I’ve known Matt for almost 20 years, as a pro tem district court judge, trial lawyer, colleague at the Seattle University School of Law, Emory University School of Law, National Institute for Trial Advocacy and finally as a teaching partner working for the U.S. Department of Justice in Eastern Europe. I have seen him as a practicing lawyer and sitting as a District Court judge. As a judge I have seen his patience, compassion, yet resolute commitment to public safety and the rule of law.
I have stood shoulder to shoulder with Matt training prosecutors in a country torn by war, bringing the rule of law to those knowing democracy for the first time. In Washington state alone, there are hundreds of trial lawyers, and a number of judges, who owe their skill to the mentorship of Matt Williams.
Matt has shown, through his intellect, compassion and “uncommon” common sense that he stands apart. If elected, he will prove to be one of the most outstanding judges in our state.
Matt Williams is the only candidate in this race rated “Exceptionally Well Qualified” by five independent judicial rating organizations, including the only organization representing virtually every lawyer in King County. Matt is the only candidate endorsed by the King County District Court probation officers and clerks. He is the only candidate endorsed by elected prosecutors, law enforcement and fire fighters.
The list of endorsements for Matt Williams is long. Those in a position to understand the qualities and values necessary in a judge, choose Matt Williams. The voters of King County could do no better than to elect Matt as their next District Court Judge.
