Auburn community members came together and celebrated art together during the ArtRageous: Artists in Action Art Fair in July.

Through artist-led activities, temporary public art installations and performances attendees were encouraged to create their own artwork, learn new techniques and celebrate art in all forms.

Trash to Treasure, the artist activity led by Kuros Zahedi, invited attendees to create a mixed media collage on a 4-by-4-foot square using various recyclables and garbage selected from the city’s waste stream. These individual artworks were then assembled and sealed by Zahedi and will be installed in the City Hall Lobby stairwell on Monday, Dec. 14.

The artists intent was to comment on “trash’s iconic status as the lowest of low and the powerful symbolism of turning it into a work of art.” The end result is a impressive showcase of the collective creativity combined to create a powerful single work of art.
