Auburn Symphony Orchestra brings Sunsets – an outdoor summer chamber music series now in its fourth year – to historic Mary Olson Farm.
Set along the Green River, the farm is King County’s best preserved subsistence farm.
Lovely Low Brass on July 7 features a low-brass quartet playing classic favorites from Mozart to Sousa and some great modern melodies. Musicians include Stephen Abeshima and Kay. D. Nichols on euphonium, and Ryan Schultz and Edgar Phillips on tuba.
Horns A-Plenty on July 21 features a unique French horn quartet, led by principal French horn player Rodger Burnett. The program includes a potpourri of horn quartets: Renaissance madrigals and Sousa marches; Irish music and hunting songs from the forests of France and Germany; American folk songs, spirituals, and patriotic music.
Summer Strings Celebration, Auburn Symphony’s third and final summer concert, features a string quintet, which will again include talented students showcased in the Saint-Saëns favorite, Carnival of the Animals. Also included are Handel’s moving Concerto Grosso in D Major and Tchaikovsky’s lyrical Serenade for Strings. Musicians on this program are John Kim (violin), Lynn Bartlett-Johnson (violin), Mike Watson (viola), Brian Wharton (cello), Todd Larsen (bass), and Chuck Goodwin (narrator).
Concerts begin at 7 p.m.
White River Valley Historical Museum docents will give tours of the farm, including the fully-restored house and barn beginning at 6 p.m. and during intermission. Wine will be available to audience members 21 and older, and a shuttle transporting people to and from the parking lot will run thirty minutes prior to the concert start time and after the conclusion of the concert.
