For the Reporter

The Auburn Symphony Orchestra returns to perform its outdoor summer chamber series.

Sunsets at Mary Olson Farm features three concerts led by the orchestra’s principals – Rodger Burnett (horn), Brian Wharton (cello) and Matt Kocmieroski (percussion).

Fun Brass opens the series on July 10, a concert consisting of fun music, including selections from “West Side Story”.

The July 24 concert, An Evening with Pacific Rims Percussion Quartet, features the music of ASO percussionists Kocmieroski, Gunnar Folsom, Rob Tucker and Paul Hansen. They will perform lively music from throughout the world, utilizing a vast array of instruments, including the tympani, drums and cymbals.

String Serenades features the works of favorite composers from the classical music repertoire – Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Dvorak and Rossini – on Aug. 7.

Concerts begin at 7 p.m.

White River Valley Historical Museum docents include tours of the farm, a fully-restored house and barn beginning at 6 p.m. Wine will be available for purchase. A shuttle will transport people to and from the parking lot, available one-half hour before the concerts begin and one-half hour after the concerts end.

Concerts are festival seating, so blankets, baskets of food and low chairs are encouraged.

Sunsets at the Mary Olson Farm is made possible with support from the White River Valley Historical Museum, the City of Auburn, and 4Culture.

Founded in 1996, the fully-professional orchestra has more than 60 musicians led by Stewart Kershaw, an internationally-renowned conductor and former music director for 25 years of the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra.

Set along the Green River, Olson Farm is one of King County’s best preserved subsistence farms.
