Poetry at The Station Bistro presents the works of Glenna Cook and Laura Snyder on Nov. 5.

The program is from 7-9 p.m. at the Bistro, 110 Second St. SW, No. 125, one block south of West Main Street, on the east side of the Auburn Transit Center.

Coffee and conversation follow readings. It is an open mic opportunity. The public is invited.

About the poets

Cook began writing poetry in her 50s, while she was attending Tacoma Community College and then the University of Puget Sound, where she graduated with a degree in English literature. She has been published in local journals: Trillium, crosscurrent review, Spindrift, Poet’s West, Raven Chronicles and others.

She is a grandmother and great-grandmother. She and husband Ken, longtime Tacoma residents, took an eight-year “vacation” to Montana, where they built a house, sold it, then returned in 2011 to Tacoma. She is now happy to be re-entering the poetry scene in the Puget Sound region.

If you’re looking for Snyder, you’re like as not to find her barefoot, sitting on an up-ended bucket on some ocean beach, enjoying the wind and the weather, collecting sweet grass to make Salish-style baskets. Or pottering in or around the snug, little cabin where she lives near Burien, singing, making paper, writing letters and poems. She’s been doing that sort of thing for years, and clearly has no intention to stop any time soon.

Snyder’s a staple of the Puget Sound poetry scene. Her poems are widely published, and appreciated even by non-poets. She’s a big fan of birds and four-footed critters, has a delightful sense of humor – some of it hard-won – and is a famous bestower of hugs.
