Pop rock band Fall Out Boy with special guest, New Politics, performs at the Washington State Fair on Sept. 12, part of the Columbia Bank Concert Series.

In the past year, the Grammy-nominated pop band has seen its fifth studio album, Save Rock and Roll reach multiplatinum status, thanks to hit singles, “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)” and “Alone Together.” Getting its start in Copenhagen, New Politics has an international following with hit singles, “Yeah Yeah Yeah” and “Harlem.”

Tickets are $55 for infield general admission seating, and $45 for grandstand general admission seating and include Fair gate admission. Tickets will start selling at 10 a.m. Saturday on the fair website, or by phone at 888-559-FAIR (3247) daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tickets also can be purchased in person at the fair’s box office at 9th Avenue Southwest and Meridian Street on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a $1 per ticket service fee will be charged for on-site purchases.

Fall Out Boy

The band got its start in Wilmette, Ill., outside Chicago in 2001. The band had originally started as a pop punk band, formed by Pete Wentz and Joe Trohman. After several tries with drummers, they landed on Andy Hurley. The band recorded its debut album, Take This to Your Grave in 2003.

Fall Out Boy’s major label breakthrough took place in 2005 with From Under the Cork Tree, which went platinum. The album produced two hit singles, “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” and “Dance, Dance.” Infinity on High reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2007, and produced several hit singles, including “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” and “thnks fr th Mmrs.” Another album followed before they took a hiatus from 2009-2012.

The band got back together and recorded Save Rock and Roll in 2013, producing its second career number one and top 20 single, “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up)” and “Alone Together.” The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 and No. 1 on iTunes in 27 countries when it was released in April 2013.

The band has appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone, and other prestigious magazines. Fall Out Boy has performed on “Saturday Night Live”, “The Voice”, “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and other shows.

New Politics

If you blend together punk, pop and electronically induced dance rock, you have the Copenhagen, Denmark band, New Politics.

David Boyd and Soren Hansen wrote songs together for three years for their respective solo albums, finally realizing they would work together well as a group. The duo sent two of their songs to the Danish National Radio P3’s Karriere Kanonen competition in 2009. Of 973 bands entered, they were one of 42 selected to perform. The challenge was that they were not yet an official band. They hired Poul Amaliel to play drums, and made it official. New Politics was one of the top four winners, and play in a major music festival in Denmark.

In signing with RCA, they took the step and moved to New York. They released their first self-titled album, then toured in the U.S. to promote it. In late 2010 Poul Amaliel left the band to move home, and was replaced by Louis Vecchio. In 2013 they released A Bad Girl in Harlem.

New Politics has opened for several tours, and was the opening act for Pink during its “The Truth About Love Tour” in 2013, as well as Fall Out Yoy’s “Save Rock and Roll Tour” that same year.
