Heavier Than Air Family Theatre nominated for award

Heavier Than Air Family Theater – the resident semi-professional family theatre located on the campus of Green River Community College in Auburn – has been nominated for a Parents’ Picks Award.

Nickelodeon’s ParentsConnect, the online resource for parenting advice and community, is allowing parents to pick the best of their local communities with its second annual Parents’ Picks Awards. Heavier Than Air Family Theatre has been Seattle’s nominee for both Best Theater/Theater Group for Kids and Day Camps two years in a row.

Users can vote for nominees online at www.parentsconnect.com/parentspicks until July 15, and ParentsConnect will announce the winners online on Aug. 15. The ’09 award winners will be featured on ParentsConnect throughout the year.

The Parents’ Picks Award will identify winners in 52 major U.S. cities. Categories include: best museum for families, best toy store, best playground/park and many more. Parent’s Picks businesses are nominated based on recommendations from Nickelodeon’s local city editors that live and work in the cities they cover, in conjunction with the sites’ user feedback. User votes ultimately determine the winning venues in 30 different categories.

The HTA group has been bringing quality family theater to the area for more than 30 years. They have established themselves in the community through the combined use of professionals, local actors and children that work together to create some of the most entertaining live performances in the area. It is the oldest continually operating community theater in South King County. They produce three shows a year and operate a drama camp for students age three through seventeen during the summer.

For its final hurrah of the 2008-2009 season, Heavier Than Air Family Theatre will present “Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business.” Show are scheduled for June 19, 20, 26 and 27.
