The Rat City Rollergirls, a Women’s Flat Track Derby Association-affiliated roller derby league, host the International WFTDA Division 1 playoffs Sept. 1-3 at the ShoWare Center.
The tournament series, in its 12th year, brings together top skaters from throughout the U.S., Canada and elsewhere for game play.
“We are excited to be hosting the International WFTDA playoffs,” said Kelsey Groenke (aka Renegade Ruthie), vice chair of the Rat City Rollergirls. “Founded in 2004, Rat City was the first roller derby league established in the Pacific Northwest and a founding member of the WFTDA. Seattle is a hotbed for roller derby with several leagues and recreational clubs in the surrounding area, and we are thrilled to be able to host and showcase so much world-class derby to the community.”
Twelve of the top Division 1 WFTDA teams will compete for a chance to advance to the International WFTDA Championships in Philadelphia.
Other Division 1 playoffs will be staged throughout September in Malmö, Sweden and Dallas.
See wftda.com/tournaments for more information. All tournaments will also be covered live by the WFTDA’s online broadcast channel, WFTDA.tv.
