Messiah Lutheran Church to present art & talent show

Messiah Lutheran Church, 410 H St. NE, is hosting an art show 3-5 p.m. Sunday.

The event is free and open to the public.

The theme of the event is a “Celebration of Creation.” Professional and amateur artists of all ages will show paintings, sketches, sculpture, textiles and photography. Various musicians and vocalists, youth and adults, will perform in solos and groups periodically throughout the two hours. Children will be invited to participate in creating a wall mural and various activities and crafts.

“I am really looking forward to this,” said Greg Kaurin, senior pastor. “It’s part of a year-long emphasis we’ve had on art and health.”

Last summer, Messiah Lutheran received a grant from the Lilly Foundation’s “Clergy Renewal Program” to send Kaurin on a three-month sabbatical to travel and study the use of natural images in churches and church architecture. The grant also is covering the cost of the free event.

“A few are professionals, but for others, this will be their first experience of showing their art,” Kaurin added.
