Faith leaders will join community leaders and residents at Saint Matthew/San Mateo Episcopal Church in a prayer vigil Sunday, calling on the new presidential administration to demonstrate moral courage on immigration reform.
The vigil will be held at 2 p.m. at the church, 123 L St. NE, Auburn.
The gathering calls for the protection of immigrant families and the leadership of President Obama and members of Congress to enact humane immigration reform. Members of the community will reflect on their concern with the direction of the country and how it is moving on immigration and the potential for faith leaders to be a force of renewal and reconciliation.
The vigil is part of a nationwide movement – Prayer, Renewal and Action on Immigration – with more than 140 vigils being held around the country. The movement is designed to highlight the growing movement of faith communities, working to bring humanity and compassion into the public dialogue on immigration.
