In honor of the National Spelling Bee taking place this week, the public can purchase a ticket to the Auburn Community Players production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” for just $10 through 9 p.m. Thursday.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. May 31, June 1, June 7-8 and June 14-15 at the Auburn Avenue Theater. A 2 o’clock matinee is June 9.
The Auburn Community Players’ production follows six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, as they learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.
The show’s Tony Award-winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. The production is rated PG-13.
The Auburn Community Players is composed of local, volunteer actors from the community. They produce two musicals a year, rehearsing and building sets and costumes in their spare time.
At the conclusion of this special offer, regular priced pre-purcahsed tickets are $14 and $12 student/senior.
Tickets purchased at the door are $17 or $15 student/senior.To purchase tickets, call 253-931-3043 or online at www.auburnwa.gov/arts.
