Kalimba plays the Spirit of Earth Wind and Fire at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Auburn Avenue Theater, 10 Auburn Ave.
Based out of the Pacific Northwest, Kalimba’s has been together since 2011 spawning from the dream of lead vocalist, Thomas “Chazz” Smith, who started the group with the vision of playing the music that he listened to growing up, Earth Wind and Fire. Kalimba has evolved into a 10-piece group with full horn section, performing the hits of Earth Wind and Fire.
The performance faithfully honors the work of Earth Wind & Fire’s late founder, Maurice White, by featuring lush treatments of the soaring vocal harmonies that are the hallmark of Earth Wind & Fire’s music. Kalimba authentically replicates the signature high notes of Maurice White’s sidekick, Philip Bailey, and transports audiences back to the excitement of the first time they heard these unforgettable songs.
