‘10,000 Hearts’ reaches out to Auburn girl

Seattle/Tacoma band Mad Silence has been touched by the plight of 4-year-old Iley Puloka’s battle with leukemia – and has decided to do something about it.

The band will donate all proceeds – that Apple doesn’t retain – from its new single, “10,000 Hearts,” available on iTunes on Monday to help the Puloka family of Auburn with the girl’s medical bills.

“It’s not very often that a band gets the chance to do something really important in the grand scheme of things,” said Mad Silence leader Scott Heuston. “We think this will allow us, all of our fans and the community to unite for such a deserving family and wonderful little girl.”

Puloka – who was diagnosed in November with acute lymphoblasic leukemia (ALL), cancer of the white blood cells – must undergo weekly rounds of chemotherapy and spinal taps. Though the family has medical insurance, their out-of-pocket costs for the treatments are high.

Inspired by Iley’s courage and spirit, Mad Silence are co-hosting two fundraising benefits with High Noon Horizon on March 19 at Stonegate Rock Lounge, 5421 S. Tacoma Way, Tacoma, and March 25 at the Hard Rock Café, 116 Pike St., Seattle.

Stonegate owner Jeff Call will host a silent auction and donate the proceeds to the Puloka family. The shows begins at 8 p.m.

Mad Silence will debut the song written for Iley at both benefits.
