Between June 21 and June 27, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 359 calls for service, among them the following:
June 21
Minor fire: 3:52 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to smoke in a residence and found it was coming through the wall from food on the neighbor’s stove. Crews helped the occupant clear the air.
June 22
Stump fire: 8:42 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters extinguished a large stump that was burning in a wooded area behind Cedar Lanes Park. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
July 23
Accident: 10:10 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters hurried to a four-car accident on Highway 18 and found that only one of the involved parties required aid, so they evaluated that person and transported the person to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC). The scene was turned over to the Washington State Patrol.
June 24
River rescue: 1:28 p.m. (Auburn). Zone 3 rescue technicians responded to a report of an unconscious male being pulled from the river in an area with difficult access. A boat crew from Puget Sound located and transported him down river by raft to waiting King County Medic One personnel, who treated him before Medic 12 transported him to MAMC. Units from Renton RFA, Puget Sound RFA, Mountain View F&R and VRFA responded.
June 25
Aid call: 7:56 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and Boeing Fire helped a man who was complaining of facial injuries from an industrial accident. Airlift transported him to Harborview’s trauma center.
June 26
Aid call: 2:30 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a report of a 5-car accident that was blocking two lanes of Auburn Way North. One of the drivers was complaining of minor injuries, but the man refused treatment and the scene was turned over to Auburn Police.
Apartment fire: 6:42 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters hustling to the report of an apartment on fire arrived to find the stairwell fully involved along with a single unit on the third floor that was spreading to other units. Firefighters from VRFA, Puget Sound RFA, South King Fire and King County Medic were dispatched to the second alarm. A dog in the main fire unit was the only casualty reported. Thirty-three residents were displaced and Red Cross assisted them in finding shelter for the evening. The fire is under investigation by the VRFA Fire Marshal’s office.
June 27
Structure fire: 4:03 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a structure fire in a two-story four-plex apartment building. The fire was quickly brought under control by responding units. There were no injuries to civilians. A private ambulance transported one firefighter to MAMC with heat-related issues for precautionary testing.
