An Amber Alert has been canceled for a 6-year-old Auburn boy after Chelan County Sheriff’s Office found the child safe and took his mother into custody this afternoon.
The mother was spotted near milepost 66 on Highway 2 near Stevens Pass. A Snohomish County deputy spotted the vehicle on Highway 2 near Index, and a chase ensued. The deputy ended the chase when the suspect’s vehicle exceeded speeds of 100 mph, according to reports.
The mother was reportedly out of the SUV and trying to flag down other motorists when she was taken into custody.
Earlier, the non-custodial mother had forced her way into a home while armed with a knife and took the child, according to King County Sheriff’s deputies.
Sandra Bennatts, 34, is accused of ransacking her mother’s home at knife point, tying her up and kidnapping the boy, who has autism, authorities said.
