An accidental attic fire damaged an Auburn home and displaced the family early Saturday morning.
The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to a report of an attic fire at 2426 17th Dive SE.
First-arriving units found light smoke coming from the roof of the structure. The firefighters made entry into the home and found light smoke and fire in the overhead. Crews pulled the ceiling down in the kitchen area to access the flames. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the area of origin. Due to the amount of damage caused, the family decided to stay with friends nearby.
A fire investigator determined the fire as accidental, caused most likely from heat transfer from the zero clearance fireplace located in the home,
The damage was estimated at $15,000 for the structure and $1,000 dollars for the contents.
