Lydia Sutton’s “Post Alley” is the winning artwork that will feature the May 10 Downtown Auburn Art Walk event, organizers announced today.
Sutton’s fine artwork of the tops of umbrellas is a “beautiful watercolor that is reminiscent of spring with the light pastel colors,” said Di Faria, event committee member. “It will be a wonderful image to represent our event.”
The contest was coordinated in partnership with the Auburn Valley Creative Arts.
The artwork will be reproduced on the various posters, postcards and walking maps to help publicize the downtown event.
The Auburn Art Walk, which features art, music and wine tasting, runs 5-9 p.m.
“As an art event we want the posters to be works of art,” said Laura Westergard, Art Walk co-chair, “as well as celebrating the quality work of local artists”
Sutton is a local artist and native of Germany. She has lived throughout Europe and the United States, studying art with many masters. She has maintained a lifelong interest in the ways of other cultures and people. Her work strives to capture the excitement of discovering something new or something long forgotten.
As a passionate painter, she paints whatever pleases her. She is a member of Auburn Valley Creative Arts, and has several works on display and for sale at the gallery, at 108 S. Division St. (open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday-Friday; noon-4 p.m. Saturday.
