A thought provoking selection of work utilizing an eclectic array of media, the exciting work of local artist Michael Taskey is on display at the Auburn Community and Event Center Gallery through Oct. 28.

The exhibit is open to the public from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday at the center, 910 Ninth St. SE. Admission is free.

Taskey, a Puget Sound-based artist, is primarily known for his natural wood carvings. In this exhibit, Taskey shares a broader range of his artwork.

Using power tools and hand tools Taskey transforms wood, metal, plastic, paper, fabric and other solids into sculptural pieces. The natural world and local histories inspire his pieces. He feels the need to connect or anchor himself to his community and he attempts this with his art. While his pieces are planned out carefully he is not afraid to follow the tangents that inevitably appear.

The Auburn Arts Commission and Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation presents the gallery. For a 2016 Gallery Brochure or for information on other cultural arts programs, go to auburnwa.gov/arts or call 253-931-3043.
