The Auburn Little League Junior Softball Dynamite’s postseason ended Tuesday with a 9-2 loss to the Fontana (Calif.) all-stars at the West Regional Little League Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
Auburn got things started in the top of the first inning when Taylor Hanson led off with a double. Megan Perius drove Hanson home with a single and later scored on Brianna Azevado’s base hit.
After posting one run in the third inning, Fontana roared back in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Sarah Guzman’s two-run double sparking a six-run explosion.
Auburn scored its second run in the fourth but was unable to catch Fontana, which put up two more runs in the sixth.
Hanson went 2-for-3 to lead the Dynamite. Azevado finished with two singles. Caitlyn Rhoades, Mindy Wanner and Laurel Tauzer each added a hit.
Alia Murillo and Vanessa Derringer also had doubles, and Madison Stein drove in two runs for Fontana.
Dezire Enriquez earned the win in the circle, striking out four and having given up just one earned run in six innings of work.
Rhoades was tagged with the loss, giving up 10 hits and eight earned runs in six innings. She also struck out two and walked four batters.
Fontana moves on to the championship bracket to face all-star teams from Nevada, Oregon and Alaska contending for the right to move on to the Little League Junior Softball World Series.
The Dynamite opened the double-elimination regional tourney with a 3-1 win over Fontana before losing 13-1 to Alaska.
