Auburn Mountainview’s season ended Saturday with a 41-22 first-round state Class 3A playoff loss to Shadle Park in Spokane.
The Lions (9-2) played without junior quarterback Gresch Jensen, who suffered a knee injury in the first quarter.
Backup quarterback Jason Sele stepped in and helped spark a comeback from a 21-3 deficit in the second quarter.
“(Sele) did a great job. He played his heart out,” Auburn Mountainview coach Jared Gervais told the Seattle Times. “He’s obviously not as polished as Gresch, but he made some good plays and ran the ball well and did the things that we needed him to do to make it competitive.
Shadle Park quarterback Brett Rypien went 40-of-57 for 470 yards and five touchdowns.
Sele was 12-of-26 for 177 yards, an interception and two TDs. He also ran for a team-high 61 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Sele added five tackles and a sack from his linebacker position.
Junior Vaughn Daggs had a TD reception and junior Gavin Robertson grabbed five receptions for 74 yards and a TD. Robertson also had 13 tackles on defense.
Senior Aeron Watson had 12 tackles, including three for a loss.
