The horticulture students from Auburn Mountainview High School present their sixth annual plant sale today through Saturday at the school’s greenhouse, located on the east side of the campus off 132nd Street on Lea Hill.
The sale will run 8 a.m.-4 p.m. today and Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
For students, the sale is the final step in a yearlong process – growing plants from seeds and cuttings, learning to feed and water, pinch and prune them, and to prevent insect infestations. Students also learn salesmanship and plant identification.
When asked about the process of growing the plants, FFA members Zack Davis and Chris Adams agreed, “It’s a group effort. We learned to work together and can really see a difference each week in the greenhouse.”
The sale will feature more than 200 different varieties of plants, including annual and perennial bedding plants, vegetables, herbs, ornamental grasses and hanging baskets.
Ag teacher and FFA advisor Regina Grubb encourages the community to come out and support the local FFA.
“Once we cover our expenses, the money earned by the students is used to buy seeds and starts for next year’s sale and more importantly’ supports the year-round FFA leadership training and program activities,” Grubb said.
