Auburn names Julie Krueger its new parks director

“I’m excited to serve our Auburn community in this new role.”

The City of Auburn has named Julie Krueger as the director of its Parks, Arts and Recreation Department.

Krueger takes on the position former director Daryl Faber had for 21 years until his retirement late last month.

“Julie brings with her an immense amount of enthusiasm, love for the community, and a wealth of knowledge,” said Mayor Nancy Backus. “I look forward to working with her in her new position on the executive leadership team, where I know her ideas and energy will benefit the residents of this city.”

Krueger began her tenure at the City of Auburn in 2006. Since 2010, she has been the arts and events manager, and in those years the City of Auburn’s parks events have enjoyed success, especially events such as Petpalooza, the Veterans Parade, Kids Day, the 4th of July Festival, and the growing Farmers Market.

Krueger helped manage the development and opening of the Auburn Community and Events Center, Auburn Teen Center and the Postmark Center for the Arts, which opened to the public in late 2023 and should finish a build-out of the lower level later this spring. She has been instrumental in the downtown Auburn Avenue Theater project and a new downtown park, both of which are in the design phase, and should start construction as early as 2026.

“I’m excited to serve our Auburn community in this new role,” said Krueger. “The city means so much to me, and I’m so thankful to give back in every way I can.”
