The public is invited to observe the 64th annual National Day of Prayer from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at the Auburn City Hall.
Eleven pastors from different denominational and cultural backgrounds will lead a public prayer event in the plaza, 25 W. Main St. (Indoors in case of rain.)
“Now as never before, Americans need to be in prayer for our country and its leaders in all spheres of influence,” said Shirley Dobson, chairperson of the NDP Task Force.
The National Day of Prayer calls for prayer for high-level federal and state officials, as well as Auburn officials, judges, police, school administrators, and fire and rescue personnel.
The theme for the event is Lord, Hear Our Cry.
“Our founding fathers laid their reputations and fortunes on the line to frame a new nation under God. We will petition Him to protect and preserve it, reversing the troubling trend toward nationwide moral collapse,” said Marge Gordon, Auburn’s NDP coordinator.
A Gallup poll found that 77 percent of Americans identify themselves as Christians, believing in the merciful living God of the Bible who intervenes in the affairs of men.
Local, state, and national observances will be held in more than 42,000 locations, from sunrise in Maine to sunset in Hawaii, uniting Americans from all socio-economic, political and ethnic backgrounds in prayer for our nation.
