Art classes and workshops

Encaustic

Designed to give artists an introduction to the encaustic painting medium, this hands-on course will teach the basics of encaustic painting including how to make your own wax medium, the basic tools needed and various techniques such as incising, scraping, layering wax, using stencils, metal imprinting tools and fusing with a torch. There will be demonstrations of each technique and each student will take home two sample paintings and a materials resource list.

Artist professional development: How to photograph your artwork

Digital submission is required for most exhibits and good photography of your artwork is key to the success of your entry. Join photographer, Frank Blau, to learn tips, tricks and best practices of photographing your two-dimensional artwork. Following the presentation, individuals can pre-register for a half hour time frame in which your artwork will be photographed for you and digital copy provided.

Mosaic switch-plates

Join us for a fun, easy workshop where you will decorate your own switch-plates. Remove the ones from your wall that you would like to embellish, make notes on the room and colors, and bring them to the class to be embellished with tile and glass. All levels welcome and workshop includes step-by-step instructions, all materials to cover up to 5 standard switch-plates, and a grouting demonstration for switch-plates along with grout to take home.

Fused glass Valentine hearts

Make special one-of-a kind gift for your Valentine. Fused glass hearts are perfect for giving and the class includes an overview of fused glass and the decoration of a pre-cut shape using grit, cut glass pieces and wet enamel. The artwork will fired by the artist the following week and available to pickup on Feb. 7-14. Ages under 15 must be accompanied by a guardian, and both must register for use of the materials.
