Due to extreme weather conditions that have resulted in high water usage, Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis has issued a Stage 1 Water Advisory. City Officials are requesting that citizens conserve water throughout these extreme weather conditions.

Here are some ways you can conserve water:

• Take shorter showers. Shorten your shower by one minute. To really save, limit your shower time to five minutes or less.

• Wash full loads in your dishwasher or washing machine.

• Only water if necessary and water lawns and gardens in the morning or evening to reduce evaporation.

• Turn the water off when shaving, and brushing teeth.

• Take showers instead of baths. A bathtub holds up to 50 gallons of water. A typical shower uses less than 20 gallons.

• Postpone washing your car or visit a car wash.

• Fix leaking water fixtures around your home.

• Install water-saving showerheads or flow restrictors.

• Sweep driveways and patios rather than washing.

The weather outlook for the next several weeks is for higher than normal temperatures. City wells are in full production to keep pace with rising water demand; however, demand has nearly reached our water supply capacity. While weather conditions may return to normal later on, we need to reduce water consumption now to avoid mandatory conservation efforts in the near future.
