The Auburn Optimist Club’s scholarship foundation awarded $500 scholarships each to five high school students.
They recipients are Joe Wiley, of West Auburn High; Whitney Cullum, Mountainview; Kealsye Fahey, of Auburn Riverside; Veronica Pratt, of Auburn High; and hearing/sight impaired Lucas Garrison, of Auburn Riverside.
The students and their parents were honored as guests during a club luncheon on May 28. Mayor Pete Lewis also attended.
Wiley, 20, holds a 3.5 grade-point average and plans to attend Green River Community College where he intends to study English and journalism. He hopes to become an author.
Cullum, 18, has a 3.56 GPA and plans to attend Boise State University to pursue a career in social work and psychology.
Fahey, 17, carries a 3.78 GPA with a future career goal of becoming a forensic pathologist or perhaps work in the law or medical professions. She plans to attend UW-Tacoma to take on interdisciplinary studies.
Pratt, 17, has a 3.67 GPA, and wants to attend either Washington or Arizona State to study architecture.
Garrison, 18; owns a 3.73 GPA and is pursuing a career in interpretation/teaching. He hopes to study American sign language/education at either Gallaudet University or Western Oregon.
