Auburn police responded to the following calls for service, among many others, between March 7 and March 12:
March 7
Traffic offense: 7:33 a.m., 1800 Auburn Way S. Police busted a man for driving with a suspended license and failing to obey instructions, that is, for switching seats with his female passenger to avoid answering for his wrongdoing. Then police arrested the woman, also in possession of a suspended driver’s license.
Theft: 9:27 a.m., 29200 132nd Ave. S.E. Some thief eyeballed a wallet on a vehicle seat, smashed a window and appropriated said wallet. Police did not disclose a value for the loss.
Nuisance: 9:59 a.m., 801 Auburn Way N. A man riled up devotees of caffeinated beverages to such a degree that Starbucks staff kicked him out and said stay out.
Vandalism: 7:19 p.m., 3500 block of Auburn Way S. A guy suspected his ex-girlfriend of breaking the headlight on his motor home. Police did not disclose a value for the loss.
Fraud: 7:46 p.m., 4200 block of A Street Southeast. An unknown person claiming to be an investigator for US Bank tried to hoodwink a fellow, demanding that he obtain three prepaid credit cards to pay off a $947 debt on his US Bank account then provide the would-be swindler with the account numbers to pay off the debt. The victim, whiffing larceny in the air, contacted the credit card company and US bank. The bank put a hold on the account until it could wrap up its investigation.
Robbery by knife: 8:32 p.m., 2000 block of I Street Northeast. A man robbed a woman at knife point. The victim said the man was in his 40’s, 5’10”, with shoulder length curly brown hair and scruffy facial hair.
March 8
Vandalism: 1 a.m., 3600 block of C Street Northeast. Somebody chucked a brick through the front glass door of a local automobile repair
business. The why remains a mystery.
Trespassing: 9: 42 a.m., 3410 Auburn Way N. Staff at Kia Motors Company gave the official boot of unwelcomehood to an ex-employee and told him not to come back.
Arson: 8:45 a.m., 2301 M St. S.E. A kid set paper towels ablaze at Pioneer Elementary School.
March 9:
Vandalism: Overnight, 1400 block of 30th Street Southeast. Somebody operating under cover of darkness punctured three tires on another person’s vehicle.
March 10
Burglary: Overnight, 3109 Auburn Way N. Somebody pried open Auburn Volkswagen’s rear door and swiped the showroom’s plasma TV.
Theft: 4:54 p.m., 1600 block of Riverview Drive Northeast. Somebody stole a saxophone from a vehicle. Police did not disclose a value for the missing instrument.
Theft: 9 p.m., 1101 Supermall Way S.W. An unknown customer stole an undisclosed amount of money and a debit card from an employee’s purse at an unnamed business on Supermall Way.
March 11
Theft: 1:52 p.m., 1101 Supermall Way S.W. A man chose to bolt a cab rather than pay his fare.
March 12
Explosives: Overnight, 600 block of H Street Northeast. A man reported that somebody had set off an explosive device on his porch overnight.
Explosives: 1:27 a.m., 200 block of Pike Street Southeast. A man found dynamite in his deceased father’s shed and called police. The dynamite had been in the shed for at least 11 years. Bomb units rendered it safe.
