Auburn police offer anti-theft device at reduced price

The Auburn Police Department is offering the automobile anti-theft device The Club® for $10.89. The Club normally sells for about $35, but this special program offered through the department is making the apparatus available for a significantly reduced rate.

The Club can be purchased at the Auburn Police Department, 340 Main St., during normal business hours. Only cash or checks are accepted. There is a limit of three per customer while supplies last.

“Auto theft in Auburn continues to be an ongoing problem,” says Officer Andy Gould. “If used correctly, The Club can be an effective deterrent to a would-be auto thief.”

Gould also encourages drivers to always lock their car doors, roll up windows and to remove personal belongings from their vehicles. By adding The Club to these things, he says, makes a vehicle more difficult to steal because it is easily visible and nearly impossible to remove.

The Police Department encourages all drivers to make use of the following Auto Theft Prevention Checklist:

• All car doors locked

• All windows rolled up

• All personal belongings removed from vehicle

• Park vehicle in well-lighted area

• Park vehicle in a high-visibility location (avoid isolated areas)

• Use an anti-theft device (The Club, alarm, kill switch, etc.)
