An Auburn police officer shot and killed a man with a warrant out for his arrest Thursday evening in Auburn when the man drew a handgun and pointed it at officers, according to a police press release.
Here is what happened, according to the press release.
Aat about 8:16 p.m. Dec. 17, Auburn police responded to a blocking disabled vehicle in the 300 block of T Street Southeast. When officers contacted the people in the vehicle, they discovered that one of them had a warrant out for his arrest.
According to the release, when officers tried to arrest the guy, he ran with police in pursuit.
Shortly after the foot chase began, according to the release, the man turned and pointed a handgun at pursuing officers, and officers shot him in response to the threat. Police immediately provided first aid, and medics quickly responded to the scene to provide further aid, according to police.
According to the release, officers found a handgun on the ground next to the man.
The Valley Independent Investigations team is handling the investigation.
