JULY 14

CPR: 3:57 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA units responding to a report of a woman whose son had found her unconscious and unresponsive, started CPR and advanced life support procedures. An ambulance transported the woman to Auburn Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

JULY 15

Commercial structure fire: 3:36 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA units responding to a report of a commercial structure fire at the

Auburn Glen Apartments,

1902 A St. S.E. and finding light smoke coming from a second-floor apartment stretched a hose-line to the involved apartment and stopped the fire from spreading. Fortunately the sprinkler system had activated and confined the fire to the one unit. VRFA units performed salvage in the unit below the fire to prevent water from damaging their things. Investigation showed that combustibles left on the stove had started the fire.

JULY 16

Car accident: 5:23 p.m. (Algona). Engine 38 and Engine 32 responding to a three-vehicle accident on southbound Highway 167 in Algona found seven people in the vehicles, five of whom needed emergency medical care. Personnel got the people out, immobilized them, and American Medical Response hauled them off to Good Samaritan Hospital in stable condition.

JULY 17

Apartment fire: 6:01 p.m., (Pacific). VRFA units responded to an apartment fire in the Cobble Court Apartments complex. Engine 38 arrived to find that the occupants had mostly put the fire out but the apartment was filled with smoke. After confirming that the people and the fire were out, the apartment got a good airing. Damage was limited to the kitchen and nobody was hurt. The apparent cause was cooking oil igniting on the stove.

JULY 18

Suspicious fire: 12:29 a.m., (Auburn). Engine 32 and Aid 32 responded to a Dumpster fire behind Goodwill Industries. Finding a large quantity of tightly packed cardboard boxes ablaze outside of the business, VRFA personnel poured about 1,000 gallons of water onto the fire, putting it out. Although the building sustained no damage, the fire destroyed overhead lines, killing the phone and data lines and the fire alarm system. Goodwill’s loss prevention manager arrived and provided a fire watch until repairs could be made. The South King Fire Investigation Task Force deemed the fire suspicious.

JULY 19

D.O.A.: 3:27 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA units, Medic 6, and Auburn Police Department responding to a report of a collapsed man found him unconscious, unresponsive, and not revivable. VRFA personnel turned the scene over to the Auburn Police.

JULY 20

Garage fire: 4:04 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA units responding to a reported garage fire in the 500 block of Eighth Street Northeast found a single-story, wood-frame garage with light smoke coming from the front door and a person inside wielding a garden hose. The occupant had snuffed out the small fire, which had started in a corner of the garage. VRFA personnel turned the scene over to the South King Fire Investigation Task Force.
