The Auburn Reporter recently received several awards from the Washington Better Newspaper Contest.

Robert Whale took first place in Best Government Reporting for his story on Auburn’s downtown parking problem.

Shawn Skager won in Best Sports Personality Profile for his story, “A horse named Hope”. The story described a special filly that became one of the most inspirational horses ever to race at Emerald Downs.

Editor Mark Klaas took second place for Best Editorial for, “Let it be Sun-down”, calling for Pacific Mayor Cy Sun’s resignation.

Rachel Ciampi was second in Color Portrait, “Passing it on”, capturing 91-year-old Navy veteran Don Hanson, stopping to talk to Haakon Aegerter, 6, as he walked down Main Street during Auburn’s 48th annual Veterans Day Parade last November.

The Washington Newspaper Publishers Association were announced the contest winners during its 127th annual convention in Chelan last Friday.
