Auburn Riverside’s Joshua Turner and Brittni Williams earned berths in next week’s state 4A track and field championships with their performances at Saturday’s district meet at French Field in Kent.
Turner, a senior, punched his ticket to state with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Turner finished with a 14.91-second time, just behind district champ Eric Simpson of Rogers’ 14.34.
Turner also qualified for state in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 5.75 inches, which was seventh.
Junior Brandi Williams moves on to state with a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a 17-6.25 and a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a 36-9.50 distance.
Also competing in the district meet for Auburn Riverside were: senior Artem Deyneka, 10th in the javelin with a 151-1; senior Isaia Tiangson, 12th in the 800 with a 1:58.46; and senior Rachel Covey, 13th in the 800 with a 2:24.93 and 15th in the 1,600 with a 5:22.66;
Competing at the district meet for Auburn were: junior Masai Matthews, ninth-place in triple jump with 42-8.50; junior Avery Wade, ninth-place in high jump with a 6-0; junior Bronson Marks, 11th in javelin with a 140-6; senior Daniel Frunchak, 15th in shot put with a 44-10.25; and senior Josh Callero, ninth in the 400 with a 50.80.
The Auburn Riverside boys finished tied for 21st with 10 points with the girls 20th with 9 points.
The state championship meet begins Thursday at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma and continues Friday and Saturday.
