Auburn School Board interviews two finalists for vacant position

On June 6, the Auburn School Board heard from the two final candidates for the District 3 position recently vacated by Melissa Laramie.

Valerie Gonzales introduced herself as an honors graduate of Green River College’s Practical Nursing Program, a licensed practical nurse employed by Maxim Healthcare in Tacoma who works with children with severe medical conditions. She has five children.

“I think I would bring the ability to see both sides and to be able to be compassionate and understanding. I know where the parents are coming from … and knowing the difficulties people have,” she said.

Diana Klapiychuk, a marketing business administrative graduate of the University of Washington and a six-year business administrative professional, has been a Connect Coordinator with the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce since last month.

“As a business administrative (professional) my goal is to facilitate a positive and an enthusiastic office environment to increase team morality,” Klapiychuk wrote in her resume.

Board members decided after discussing the merits of each candidate in a closed-door, executive session that they wanted another opportunity to hear from them. Round two is at 6 p.m. June 20 at the administration building.
