In his second year at Lakeland, St. Mary is known as the friendly giant. He taught P.E. at Washington Elementary for five years, moved to Yakima for two years to teach P.E. and returned to Auburn as assistant principal.

The school board also will recognize Hannah Park, a fifth-grader at Evergreen Heights Elementary, for being an outstanding student on Monday. Laura Akins, Hannah’s third-grade teacher said, “Hannah is a quiet, confident and hard-working student. Her bright and bubbly spirit is contagious. A very promising future is in store for this amazing girl.” Hannah takes her education seriously. Though she most often picks up new concepts quickly, she is brave enough to ask questions when she doesn’t understand. She pursues the topic until she fully comprehends the material.
