For the Reporter
The Auburn School District is accepting referrals for the 2014-15 High Capable Program, a program that serves intellectually gifted students. The referral window closes Feb. 14.
Once a student is identified as highly capable, the student is eligible for Highly Capable program services from the date of eligibility through graduation; annual testing is not required.
Students currently enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade are automatically screened for participation. Referral forms are available online and in all Auburn School District counseling offices. Selection for highly capable programs reflects state guidelines for identifying intellectually gifted students.
The guidelines also are available online at www.auburn.wednet.edu.
If students do not meet the screening criteria, but parents desire additional testing, families can request an appeal. The form is available on the school district website.
For more information, families may contact their child’s counselor or the Department of Student Learning at 253-931-4903.
